I don't need to grandstand for some producer's amusement to prove that you're important to me.

And what do you expect that will do?

I expect it to meet the criteria of "something you value" while not deeply disrupting your life, abilities, or relationship with others. It is one of your defense mechanisms, but it's not as starkly baring as sacrificing one's ability to "obfuscate the truth" or "conceal one's emotions".

I don't expect it will be pleasant, but I do expect it will be endurable. And, moreover -- you have already demonstrated that it is something you're willing to put aside for me, at least when we're alone together. So I expect it will meet the objective of answering, "What would you be willing to sacrifice for this person?" as well.
